U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps (USNSCC) selects the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) as their Marksmanship Program

The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps announced late last week the selection of the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) as the firearms safety training and marksmanship partner for the USNSCC Program. The Scholastic Action Shooting Program along with the Scholastic Clay Target Program are operated by the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF), an educational-athletic non-profit amateur sports organization which exists to introduce scholastic age youth to competitive team shooting sports. Founded in 1962, the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets is a national youth leadership development program. The U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps runs two programs, one for ages 13 through the completion of high school and a second program, the Navy League Cadet Corps for ages 10-13. "The USNSCC values individual responsibility and sportsmanship, and we're really excited to partner with an organization that holds these same values,” said retired Navy Captain Paul Zambernardi, the Executive Director of the USNSCC. “Our partnership with SASP is going to provide the opportunity to safely participate in team-based action shooting events, opening up a new world of teamwork and competition to the cadets of the Naval Sea Cadet Corps." Vicki Powell, Director of Unit Training with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps added, “We are really looking forward to our partnership with SASP. This program fits perfectly with our stated program goals and will allow our units across the country to add a responsible competitive discipline to their ongoing unit activities.” Rick Leach, National Director of the SASP program stated following the announcement, “We are excited to have this partnership with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps. We are looking forward to completing the program development, training coaches and getting the Sea Cadet Youth Athletes competing at all our local, state, regional and national events in 2019.” Sea Cadet unit leadership across the country will be attending SASP coaches training classes in the next few months with the goal to have units participating in competitions throughout 2019. “SASP is an excellent program that promotes safe and responsible competition through team shooting sports”, stated Gary Weisbaum, Head of SASP Marketing. “This program provides a key recruitment and retention tool for U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps units across the country.” About the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps: The USNSCC is a national non-profit youth leadership development program for youth age ten through the completion of high school. The USNSCC believes in providing opportunities for young Americans that will positively shape their lives and career. For 55 years, through a nationwide network of dedicated volunteers, the USNSCC has provided life-changing programs that have helped develop our next generation of leaders. As the official youth program of the U.S. Navy and U.S Coast Guard, the USNSCC has provided leadership training for more than 170,000 young Americans. 2019 SASP All State Team Criteria

Thanks to the generous sponsorship by GLOCK, RUGER, CZ-USA and ACTION TARGET, at the 2019 National Championships SASP will have an ALL-STATE TEAM Competition. Athletes who compete in their respective state SASP match in .22 pistol, .22 rifle (optic/iron combined), centerfire pistol or PCC are eligible to make their states SASP All-State Team at the 2019 National Championships in Marengo, OH.  Each state will have an All-State Pistol team made up of two rimfire pistol athletes and two Centerfire athletes (1911 will not be included).  The All-State Rifle team will be made up of two rimfire rifle athletes and two PCC athletes. (iron or optic will not be considered). Any athlete who places in the top two at their respective state championships will be eligible to represent his or her state in that discipline. Athletes may qualify as All-State in more than one discipline.  If a top-two athlete is NOT attending the SASP National Championships in Ohio, then the opportunity will be bumped down to the next eligible competitor from that state who is attending the National Championships. Athletes attending the National Championships (representing their state as an All-State Team member) will receive a custom shirt signifying their All-State Team designation! Guidelines: Top two athletes will be determined by the actual times shot for each discipline at their respective State SASP match. Ties - If a tie occurs for final ranking, the In & Out (V for V if used) stage score will be used as the tie-breaker. If that does not break the tie, the fastest single run of that stage will be used as the tie-breaker. If necessary, the second and third run will be used as the tie breaker. Times at the National Championships will be used from the athlete’s normal squadding with his or her team. Any ties will be broken as per the handbook and listed about using In and Out or V for V stage. This is NOT an HOA event! Athletes do not need to compete in all disciplines. SASP will provide awards to the 1st through 3rd place team members for each discipline. These awards will be presented at the respective awards ceremonies on Friday and Saturday at Nationals. The All-State Teams will be comprised of two athletes from each state for each discipline, non-collegiate athletes only! Good luck and congratulations to all the SASP All State Team members!

Request for Proposals: Shooting Coach Education Curriculum Development

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Inc. (SSSF) is receiving multi-state grant funding from the US Fish and Wildlife Service to address National Conservation Need #8 Outdoor Heritage — Participation, recruitment, retention and reactivation in hunting, fishing, boating, and conservation-related recreational activities; enhanced relations among state fish and wildlife agencies and related industries. This project will address NCN 8 by providing new methods and tools that state agencies can use to recruit and retain youth shooting sports coaches to help grow and sustain participation in the shooting sports, thus driving revenue through excise taxes and creating a new audience for hunter recruitment. This project will also create industry/agency partnerships as state fish and wildlife agencies implement these tools with the help of the SSSF and other partners. This project will result in a modernized, and scalable introductory shooting coach education program in shotgun, rifle and pistol for use by all 50 state agencies. Agencies can use the course to enhance their recruitment efforts by creating a large audience of shooting sports participants. Agencies may choose to customize additional content in addition to the core curriculum specific to state shooting sports programming needs. This project will focus on volunteer coach education in shotgun, rifle and handgun shooting applicable, but not limited to the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The project includes development of learning tools and coursework using both online and range training. Much like popular hunter education courses, the project consists of online training for volunteers to complete at their convenience followed by a local range session where coaches can network amongst area teams. This approach will result in coach education available to volunteers at a lower cost, higher quality and better convenience than conventional training. The SSSF would like to invite requests for proposals (RFP) to assist in developing curricula for this project. More than one proposal may be selected, as necessary to satisfy the requirement of the various shooting disciplines. Responses must be received by March 1, 2019 by 5:00PM CST. SSSF Donates Nearly $500,000 to MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment Accounts

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) recently donated $480,281 to Team Endowment Accounts at the MidwayUSA Foundation. Teams earned funds by raising money through the SSSF's Vision 20/20 fundraising campaign, SCTP and SASP national fundraisers and by placing in SCTP/SASP national events. These donations have benefited 97 teams participating in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) and Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) across 25 different states. Since 2014 the SSSF has donated over $6.5 million to benefit 642 SCTP and SASP team endowment accounts across 45 states at the MidwayUSA Foundation. The SSSF provides SCTP and SASP member-teams the opportunity to earn MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment Account funds by participating in SCTP and SASP fundraising activities benefiting local shooting sports communities and through placements in SSSF-sponsored competitions . Please contact the SSSF for more information on how your shooting team can earn team endowment funding for their account at the MidwayUSA Foundation. The Team Endowment Program at the MidwayUSA Foundation gives a community the ability to financially support a competitive youth shooting sports program or financially assist in the start-up of a new youth shooting sports program. The team can then request a grant of up to 5% of their endowment account balance once each year, in either December or June, to pay for team expenses.
