Ruger Vaquero revolver auction to benefit SASP

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a Ruger® Vaquero 45 Long Colt single-action revolver to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). The revolver is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through January 16th at 9:17 AM.

The Ruger® Vaquero® was first introduced in 1993 and is recognized as incorporating the frontier virtues of strength, reliability, and durability. This revolver has a high-gloss stainless steel finish. The serial number 55-03064 tells us this revolver was rollmarked February 15, 1993. “RUGER VAQUERO® .45 CAL.” is stamped on the left side of the cylinder frame. The Vaquero is equipped with a rounded blade front sight with no ramp and a fixed notch rear sight in a groove on the topstrap. Other features include a 5-1/5 inch barrel, a 6-round 45 Long Colt cylinder, and rosewood grip panels with silver and black Ruger Eagle medallions inserted in the grips. This Vaquero revolver had been stored in a brown hinged cardboard box along with an appropriate instruction manual and locking device. The revolver has not been fired beyond normal factory testing, and is being sold “as is.” The purchaser assumes all liability for its safe and proper ownership, storage, use, and resale. The revolver is a part of the Ruger factory collection in Southport, Connecticut, and a Certificate of Authenticity will be mailed to the winner of the auction. Note: the winner of this auction will be responsible for paying the Federal Excise Tax of $31.28.

Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation will again join #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.

Occurring this year on December 3rd, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

#GivingTuesday is also a great opportunity to drive donations for your SCTP or SASP team through our Vision 2020 campaign! Simple posts to your social media sites and/or e-mails to team members, parents, friends and business associates can make a difference! All you have to do is share your team ID and the link to donate!

This year we are offering a special incentive for teams on #GivingTuesday! We will be awarding this Henry Big Boy Rifle and Ruger Black Hawk revolver to the team with the most unique donors making online donations on December 3rd.

Here are the requirements:

SCTP/SASP teams must be registered for the Vision 2020 campaign. Team registration information and materials can be found at the bottom of our official campaign page.
Donations must be online through the SSSF Vision 2020 team donation form.
Minimum donation is $10
Teams must raise a minimum of $500 through online donations on December 3rd to be eligible for the Henry / Ruger combo.
Winning team will be the team with the highest count of individual donors making a donation of $10 or more on December 3, 2019. In case of a tie, the team with the largest individual donation amount will win.

Online donations must be made on December 3rd, 2019 in order to count towards this Combo Gun competition.

Robust Insurance for SCTP & SASP Teams This Season

The Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic action Shooting Program (SASP) are ready and welcoming youth shooting sports teams from around the country for yet another successful shooting competition season!

As the leader in youth shooting sports, these programs go above and beyond in providing safe and fun competitive programs. Programs that instill confidence and respect while getting youth “off the couches” and participating in these highly energetic activities! Youth from grades 5 through College are welcome as well as any other organized youth programs like Boy/Girl Scouts, 4H, AIM, FFA, US Naval Sea Cadets, USAYESS and more. The SCTP and SASP do not discriminate and welcome everyone!

These programs were started by Industry and ran under the auspice of the NSSF back in 2001. As true today, Industry stands behind them 100% with both financial and product support making them the most supported youth shooting organization in the world!

Keeping in line with our standard of being #1, the SSSF liability insurance policy now provides a general aggregate limit of $10 million. The SSSF Commercial General Liability Insurance policy is the most comprehensive coverage available in the industry for youth shooting sports athletes, volunteer coaches, advisors, and other volunteers who have joined the SCTP and SASP. The new aggregate limit is twice that of previous policies.

“While the SCTP boasts an impeccable safety record, we feel it is in our best interest to make sure all of our athletes and coaches are properly insured” stated Tom Wondrash, SCTP National Director. “We take protecting our members very seriously and have shown it by increasing the limits of the SSSF policy to a new level of protection! Being a member of the SCTP or SASP is only $25 for athletes and $35 for coaches and volunteers. SSSF Seeks Information Technology Project Manager

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is seeking a highly motivated individual to assume the role of Information Technology Project Manager. The successful candidate will have a background in product management and be responsible all aspects of customer facing software application development, testing, training, implementation and support for the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of customer facing information technology (IT) project management for the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Scholastic Clay Target Program and Scholastic Action Shooting Program. Successful candidate will play a key role in the organizations ability to recruit and retain members and supporters.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Managing all aspects of customer facing applications and software life cycle for the SSSF and its programs including development, implementation, support and retirement
Working with diverse groups including SSSF/SCTP/SASP management, customers, partners, contractors and other stakeholders to accurately assess current and future information technology needs required to increase membership, event participation and overall support of the SSSF and its programs
Prioritizing information technology needs and developing detailed IT project proposals and product road maps for program and foundation management
Creating timelines, developing budgets and identifying resources required for successful project completion of both short and long-term IT projects
Providing point solutions and integrations as needed to satisfy business needs
Documenting projects and communicating regular progress with all stakeholders
Creating comprehensive testing and implementation plans
Working with IT support staff to develop both internal and customer training materials
Planning and executing both internal and end-user training
Interacting with management, staff, membership, contractors and others to execute job duties
Constantly monitoring and evaluating technology trends and developments

SSSF Seeks Marketing and Communications Manager

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is seeking a highly motivated individual to assume the role of Marketing and Communications Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for content creation and day to day management of all foundation and program related communications.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of marketing and communications for the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Scholastic Clay Target Program and Scholastic Action Shooting Program. The Marketing and Communications Manager will be responsible for key messaging to current members/supporters as well as external audiences using a variety of methods and tools. Successful candidate will play a key role in the organizations ability to recruit and retain members and supporters.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

Working with foundation and program management to develop and implement marketing and communication strategies and policies
Creation and management of annual communications calendar based on key events
Interacting with management, staff, membership, contractors and others to execute job duties
Managing and growing mailing lists related to members, supporters, media and prospects
Writing, editing and development of content for various foundation and program media platforms including blogs, press releases, email blasts, social media posts, streams, stories, magazines, etc.
Create and coordinate all internal, direct email communications with staff, supporters, state advisors, coaches, athletes and parents based on program needs
Manage all aspects of a regular e-newsletter for members, supporters and prospects
Grow following, reach and exposure of foundation and program social media sites
Create and manage monitors and alerts for external media in order to promote news generated by local member teams and to leverage member generated content
Creation of print and digital ads, flyers, media guides, informational packets and other marketing assets required for program and foundation needs
Utilize advertising systems such as AdWords to recruit new members and supporters
Manage all aspects of the SSSF All Scholastic Team and leverage team membership for program marketing efforts
Management of all content on foundation and program websites
Management of image and video libraries required for foundation and program needs
Manage all aspects of the annual National Championships program including creative, ad aggregation, content, printing and distribution
Manage all aspects of on-site event communications for the annual National Championships including promotion of special events, daily schedules, text messaging, etc.

Congratulations to the 2019 National Championship SASP All-State Winners

At this year’s SASP National Championships, 91 athletes from 17 states competed to help their state become the top state in pistol or rifle and have bragging rights for the next year.

To compete in the All State Competition at Nationals, athletes had to compete at their respective state SASP matches in Centerfire pistols .22 pistol, .22 rifle (optic or iron), or PCC.

The top two SASP athletes at their respective state championships were eligible to represent his or her state in that discipline. Athletes could qualify as All-State athletes in both the rifle and pistol disciplines. All athletes that attended the National Championships (representing their state as an All-State Team member) received a custom shirt signifying their All-State Team designation, thanks to the generous sponsorship by GLOCK, ACTION TARGET, CZ-USA and RUGER.

Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation Awards Over $100,000 in Scholarships

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation through their Scholastic Clay Target Program and their Scholastic Action Shooting Program awarded 126 youth athletes over $100,000.00 in college Scholarships through their scholarship program and at the 2019 National Championships in Marengo, Ohio last month.

Tom Wondrash, National Director noted, “this is the first time our combined programs were able to award our Youth Athletes and their families over $100,000.00 in college scholarships. We could not have done it without the generous support of our program sponsors who continue to step up and support this initiative”.

In addition to the scholarships awarded to SCTP and SASP youth athletes that apply for these awards,at this years National Championships special scholarships were awarded by Browning, Beretta, and Blaser USA. In order to be eligble, athletes must have shot a Browning shotgun in 16 yard singles trap, a Beretta shotgun in the skeet event or a Blaser shotgun in the sporting clays event.

Winners of those scholarships include:

Browning Trap: Grace Marlen (St. Louis, MO), $7,600
Beretta Skeet: Graham Eubanks (Eatonton, GA) $4,000
Blaser Sporting Clays: Baylor Garland (Eatonton, GA), $5,000

“The smiles on the faces of our athletes that are awarded college scholarships makes it all worthwhile” said SASP National Director Rick Leach. “College is such a significant financial commitment for all our youth athletes and their families. These college scholarships, no matter what the amount are something the youth athletes themselves can contribute to the effort”.

Membership Renewals and Registration Reminders for New Competition Season

Greetings SCTP and SASP Coaches, As a reminder, September 1^st marks the beginning of a new season with the Scholastic Clay Target and Scholastic Action Shooting Programs. Membership renewals for coaches and athletes are required to retain member benefits including liability insurance, use of the SSSF SHOT system and eligibility to participate in all of the great SCTP and SASP events at the local, state, regional and national levels. In addition, membership is required to take full advantage of all of the SCTP/SASP deals and promotions and fundraisers as well as camp opportunities, scholarships and the All Scholastic Team. NOTE: If starting a new team, the head coach and/or team administrator should initiate these steps. In most cases the head coach/team administrator will also coordinate registration for all members of their local team. New teams are encouraged to watch our video tutorial on how to register. Requirements for team and volunteer registration are as follows:

Login to the SHOT System to create your new team and register your first coach.
Create (new teams) or update (returning teams) your information on the SHOT System. See video tutorial for more information.
Additional coaches / volunteers must be added through an invitation process in the SHOT System. Please watch our video tutorial on how to add a new coach or volunteer to your team.
Pay your $35 registration fee for each volunteer. Fees can be paid online through the SHOT system individually or in bulk.
Ensure your background check is current (a new check is required every two years) by logging into the SHOT system to verify the last date approved.
Take the Positive Coaching Alliance Double Goal Coaches Course if you have not done so previously. There is no cost for the course when using the SSSF-provided voucher code. Volunteers must take this course only one time.

Requirement for registration of all athletes are as follows:

Complete and return a 2019/2020 athlete consent/waiver form for SCTP and/or SASP for each athlete. Head coaches must keep a copy of the signed form and return the original to the program office listed on the form.
Complete and retain the 2019/2020 Sportsmanship Contract form for SCTP and/or SASP for each athlete.
Complete and retain the 2019/2020 Medical Consent form for SCTP and/or SASP for each athlete.
Update the athlete information pages in the SHOT system. Ensure all contact information is correct and update the School Class and Classification information for each athlete.
Pay the $25 athlete registration fee for each athlete. Fees can be paid online through the SHOT system individually or in bulk.
Join and/or renew memberships with the National Governing Bodies (NGB) for skeet (NSSA), sporting clays (NSCA) and / or trap (ATA). NGB membership is a requirement to participate in SCTP state, regional and national championship events. PLEASE join or renew through the SHOT system as a portion of the membership fees sold through the SHOT system are retained for the SCTP Scholarship Program.

The 2019 Scholastic Action Shooting Program 2019 National Championships became the Largest Action Shooting Match in History

65 SASP teams from over 20 states from as far away as Washington State traveled with their Youth Athletes, Coaches, Volunteers, and Parents all came together at the Cardinal Shooting Center in Marengo, Ohio for what proved to be a “Record Breaking” 2019 SASP National Championship.

With over 1,650 entries, this years SASP National Championship surpassed Glock Shooting Sports Foundation to become the largest Action Shooting Match in history. SASP founding sponsors Glock, Ruger, CZ USA, and Action Target were all in attendance to be a part of this historic milestone. Over 250,000 shots were fired at the 2019 National Championship competitions.

Congratulations to all our 2019 SASP National Championship Individual and team winners. Many teams came to the Cardinal Center to defend their previous titles and left holding the “top spots” again for 2019. Still, many of this year’s individual and team winners were on the podium for the first time. It was easy to see that all our SASP teams had worked hard all year to get ready for the intense competition that is always a part of the SASP National Championships.

Our thanks to all our safety officer volunteers who put in over 1000 combined hours in the 90 plus degree heat and humidity. And our thanks to the staff at the Cardinal Center for their support.

For everyone involved it was an amazing week and it’s time to start planning for our next record setting National Championship event, July 11-18, 2020!

Custer, Washington Scholastic Action Shooting Sports “Team Gotta” Heads to the 2019 SASP National Championships to Defend Multiple Titles

Twelve (12) Youth Athletes from Custer, Washington based SASP Team Gotta are heading to the 2019 SASP National Championships in Marengo, Ohio this week to defend a host of titles earned at the 2018 SASP National Championships.

In 2018 Team Gotta won 1^st Place in Rimfire Pistol, 1911 Pistol and Open Optic Rifle. Team Gotta, the SASP that travels each year across the country to attend the National Championships hold multiple events throughout the year to cover the cost of travel for the team athletes and coaches. Team Gotta Head Coach, Jim Coffey proudly stated, “last year and again this year our team athletes did not have to pay a dime to travel to Nationals”. The entire teams’ efforts throughout the year along with a grant from the Midway Foundation made all that possible.”

In addition to competing in numerous SASP events, Team Gotta youth athlete Naomi McKay, who finished 2018 as the Rimfire Pistol Senior Lady High Overall sang the National Anthem at the 2019 National Championships opening ceremonies on Wednesday, July 17, 2019.
