Purchase ATA/NSCA/NSSA Memberships Through SCTP and Receive Team Endowment Funds!

Is your team planning on shooting your 2018 Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) state shoot or perhaps a regional or our national event this year? If so, we have a program to help SCTP teams with National Governing Body (NGB) fees for the 2017/2018 shooting season as well as growing your team’s MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment account! Background Since 2007 the Scholastic Clay Target Program has maintained partnerships with several of our NGB’s including the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA)National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) and National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA). These partnerships require that we host “registered events” at our state (where possible) and national championships and therefore our athletes competing in these events must have current memberships with the respective NGB. These partnerships provide many benefits to SCTP athletes including:
  1. Provide a pathway and additional opportunities for youth and families to continue participating in competition clay target shooting outside of the regular SCTP season.
  2. Provide much needed SCTP Scholarship funding to our graduating athletes. In 2017 the SSSF awarded $99,600 in college scholarships, supported in part by donations from our NGB partners.
  3. Enable SCTP athletes to apply for scholarship funds available only to national governing body members through the respective NGB scholarship programs.
  4. National governing bodies provide an official historical record of an athlete's scores which are frequently requested when applying to colleges with shooting programs.
Facilitating continued involvement in the shooting sports is part of the mission of the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation /SCTP and we believe these partnerships with NGBs help us accomplish our mission. 2018 Incentive Program For every dollar that your team spends on NGB memberships sent in through the SHOT system, we will send that exact amount of money to your team’s MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment account! This will include your team’s coaches and adult volunteer memberships that are also paid through our system!! For example: “Team A” has 100 athletes who all shoot Trap. They remit payment (through SHOT or via check to SCTP Headquarters) for 100 athletes’ ATA membership dues of $12 per athlete = $1,200. The SCTP/SSSF will then send that exact amount of money into “Team A’s” Midway USA Foundation account. It’s that simple! This only includes NGB membership dues paid through the SCTP. Dues paid directly to the ATA, NSCA or NSSA are not eligible. This will include ALL NGB membership dues paid starting Sept. 1st, 2017 until May 31st OR until the first $150,000 in NGB membership dues have been received, whichever occurs first. Teams MUST have an active account with the MidwayUSA Foundation prior to May 31st in order to receive Team Endowment funding. So coaches, when registering your team remember to pay athlete NGB membership dues at that time to take advantage of this opportunity to grow your teams’ MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment accounts! Taking care of these fees at the time of athlete registration is as simple as checking a box in the SHOT system! Please feel free to contact our SCTP staff if you have any questions.

SSSF Completes 2017 Scholarship Cycle

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) recently completed its 2017 scholarship program awarding $99,600 to deserving athletes involved in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). Scholarships benefited 109 SCTP athletes and 7 SASP athletes from 24 different states who are heading for higher education. Athletes graduating from high school and enrolling in college  were eligible to apply for this year’s scholarships. Awards are based on SCTP/SASP participation, academics, need, essays and other factors. Scholarships were funded by generous shooting industry sponsors and partners including the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA), National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA)/National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) as well as supporters and donors who provide support to national SCTP fundraising banquets. Additional scholarships for the SCTP were awarded thanks to special support from Browning and the National Rifle Association (NRA). From 2013 through its 2017 distributions, SSSF has awarded over $300,000 in scholarship funds benefiting over 300 student athletes from 39 different states in the Scholastic Clay Target and Scholastic Action Shooting programs. Watch for details on the 2018 scholarship program on www.sssfonline.org in early March, 2018.

Coaches: Complete ATA/NSSA/NSCA Registrations Through SHOT System

As a reminder, any athletes planning to compete in state or national SCTP events must be members of the respective national governing body (NGB). Athletes in SCTP trap singles events must be members of ATA and athletes competing in SCTP state or national skeet or sporting clays events must be members of NSSA/NSCA. All targets will be registered with the respective NGB for those events. Coaches: When renewing or registering teams and athletes requiring NGB membership for the new season, please complete the membership registrations and payments through the SHOT system. This will ensure that SCTP gets credit for those registrations and increase the college scholarship funding available for us to award to our graduating athletes. Please complete the registrations and payments at least 30 days prior to your scheduled competition to ensure time for processing of membership credentials through the respective NGB offices. Amateur Trapshooting Association and Scholastic Clay Target Program Announce Partnership

SCTP National Director, Tom Wondrash, and Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) Executive Director, Lynn Gipson, have announced that the executive committees of both organizations have approved a plan to unify the youth shooting sports efforts of both entities, beginning immediately. ATA membership will be required of all SCTP State and National Championship Singles participants beginning in 2015. These State Championship tournaments, along with the SCTP National Singles Trapshooting Championship, will be registered with the ATA. SCTP members will be encouraged to join the ATA through the SCTP via its online registration system, SHOT v5. “This isn’t a new concept,” stated Tom Wondrash. “Event registration and membership with national governing bodies has been required for many years for the SCTP’s skeet (NSSA) and sporting clays (NSCA) national events, as well as USA Shooting’s (USAS) international events. This will be both beneficial and crucial to the growth of the SCTP and youth shooting sports. We look forward to working with the ATA.” Another feature of the partnership will be funding to the SCTP by the ATA for scholarships and program operating costs. “Not only is this a landmark partnership for the promotion of youth shotgun target sports, it’s also a unique win-win-win situation,” reported Lynn Gipson. “Both organizations benefit from membership and funding, and the student athletes benefit from having their championship scores become a national governing body permanent record for use by coaches and others in the future. We look forward to a long relationship, beneficial to everyone involved.” For more information on the ATA, visit www.shootata.com.
