Five shooting teams each recently earned $5000 in endowment funds for asking their dono

rs to commit to a recurring gift. MidwayUSA Foundation wants to reward even more teams. The foundation will match donors’ recurring gifts dollar for dollar. All shooting teams eligible to apply will need to complete and submit their application by December 15, 2015. Donors can give a recurring gift right from their phone, tablet or computer. It's safe, secure and they'll receive a receipt totaling their gifts at the end of the year. If you'd like to know if your shooting team is eligible, email the foundation and visit the grants p age for more details. Although the matching deadline is Nov. 30, 2015, you do not have to complete promotions by this date. Details on 2016 matching will be announced soon. Also remember that matching dollars are deposited into your account the month following your donation. Click now to register for MidwayUSA Foundation’s free promotions. 2015 SSSF National Championship Participation Results in Impressive Economic Contributions to Local Economy

Southwick Associates’ recent economic report of the 2015 SSSF National Championship at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, Ill., June 12-18, 2015, is further proof that sporting events can serve as powerful economic drivers in communities across the nation. Southwick Associates, a market research and economics firm specializing in the hunting, shooting, sportfishing, and outdoor recreation markets, found that contributions from the event to the Illinois GDP totaled $15,797,787. Tax revenues generated $3,960,917, and 245 jobs were supported in the state. The report indicates that in addition to the 2,600 scholastic shooters who participated in the National Championship, 4,000 parents and 600 coaches also attended. The competitors, parents, and coaches each spent an average of $1,429 on event fees and other costs (food, travel, lodging, etc.). This spending made measurable contributions to the Illinois economy. Southwick Associates and the NSSF garnered this information through an online survey conducted between July 24 and August 14, 2015. The survey was designed to characterize spending and participation of competitors and others attending the SSSF National Championship. Of the 7,200 competitors, parents, and coaches at the event, 824 completed the survey. View the entire report here.

Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, Looking For Full-Time Shooting Sports Coach

Simpson College, a private residential liberal arts college in Indianola, Iowa, seeks coaching candidates for a newly created position with the College’s Shooting Sports Club team. Qualified applicants will have an excellent working knowledge of shooting sports, especially the Scholastic Clay Target Program and the Scholastic Pistol Program. This is a full-time position and will be responsible for:

Safety of student athletes;
Working directly with the Admissions Department on the recruitment of student athletes;
The organization and supervision of team practices;
Organization and supervision of athletes in collegiate competitions;
Management of the club’s budget and fund raising;
Coordination of outreach programs for Simpson College and surrounding community; and
Other duties within the College as assigned, based upon the qualifications of the candidate.

Bone Marrow Registry Drive to be Held for SCTP Shooter Skyler Rogers

SCTP shooter Skyler Rogers needs your help. The youth shooter is in need of a bone marrow transplant, and he's looking for a match.

A bone marrow registry drive is being held Dec. 5, 2015, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ben Avery Clay Target Center in Phoenix, Az.

Skyler is a State Champion and nationally ranked shotgun shooter with a heart of gold. He is always the first to pitch in and help a stranger, but this time it’s Skyler who needs help. At the age of 3, Skyler was diagnosed with a blood disorder called ITP. Skyler’s bone marrow is dying and he needs to find someone with his bone marrow match. Skyler is looking forward to getting into the hospital and getting the transplant started. He’s already making plans for when he’s better. No doubt Skyler will do great things once he's feeling better; that’s just his personality. Registration takes 5 to 10 minutes and consists of a consent form and a cheek swab. Changes To 2015-2016 SPP And SCTP Handbooks

As well all well know, with growth and development often comes change...and the SSSF is not exempt from that process. So along with the new year of competition, there are several new items to review in both the official SPP and the SCTP handbooks.

Tammy Mowry, program director of the SPP, mentions that there are some "big" changes to make note of in the updated 2015-2016 SPP document. Some of the highlights include updates in the section on "Grouping Athletes -Divisions" (look for the details about categories) as well as in "Team Definitions" (don't miss the updated range commands). Tom Wondrash, national director of the SCTP, shares that there are too many changes to post each and every one. And he encourages everyone to dig in and and read the updated 2015-2016 handbook, paying special attention to the red text, which shows where recent changes have been made. NRA/USAS/CMP Level 1 Shotgun Coach Course to be Held in Hawaii in December

e interested in learning the basics of coaching beginning to intermediate shooters are invited to attend the NRA/USAS/CMP Level 1 Shotgun Coach Course, which will be held Dec. 3-4, 2015 at the County Trap and Skeet Range on the big Island of Hawaii. The coach school provides two days of shotgun-specific lessons and practical coaching exercises and will run from 8am – 5pm each day. There will be an SCTP informational meeting being held on Wednesday, Dec. 2nd at 6 pm at the County building in Hilo for those wanting more information about starting a youth team. The course schedule includes instruction on safety, rules, mental training, shooting basics, building quality programs, conducting tournaments and other fundamentals of coaching.

Those interested in learning the basics of coaching beginning to intermediate shooters are invited to attend the Level 1 Shotgun Coach Course, which will be held Nov. 7-8, 2015 at the Colorado Clays Shooting Park in Brighton, Col. The coach school provides two days of shotgun-specific lessons and practical coaching exercises. The course schedule includes instruction on safety, rules, mental training, shooting basics, building quality programs, conducting tournaments and other fundamentals of coaching. The instruction will be led by Scott Moniot, National Coach Development Staff (NCDS) NRA/USAS, Advanced Certified Shotgun Coach, Level 3. The cost for the course is $190 and includes all printed materials, three-year coaching credentials with the NRA, range fees, and lunch/refreshments each day. Individuals must bring a 12- or 20 -gauge shotgun, eye and ear protection, vest or shell pouch, and at least two boxes of shotgun shells. NRA and SPP Announce First Scholastic Pistol Program Pistol Camp in Tucson, Arizona

The National Rifle Association and the Scholastic Pistol Program are proud to announce the first Scholastic Pistol Program Pistol Camp in Tucson, Arizona. The camp will take place December 21-23, 2015 at the Pima Pistol Club. The unique camp, sponsored by the NRA, will be limited to 32 athletes and will feature both range and classroom training aimed to take an athlete to the next level. The first two days will include shooting skills. Day three is an SPP match in the morning and a rifle side match in the afternoon. The price includes three lunches, ammunition and a SPP camp shirt. Participants will be using .22 LR (ammo is included in the cost of the camp) and pistols will be available for those who do not have a suitable gun. If an athlete prefers to use his or her own 9mm pistol, the participant will be required to furnish his or her own ammo (650 rds). Registration information will be available soon.

SPP to Attend Boys Scouts of America 2015 National Outdoor Conference

SPP is looking forward to attending the Boy Scouts of America 2015 National Outdoor Conference to be held at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, NM, Oct. 14-18, 2015. SPP will be promoting the program during the Vendor Show on Oct. 15-16 (Thursday-Friday), and it will be conducting a demo for the attendees on the afternoon of the 16th. Ed Fitzgerald, project manager with GLOCK and SSSF Board of Directors member; Tom Yost, consultant with Smith & Wesson, Chris Hess, product manager steel targets with Action Target, and Tammy Mowry, SPP program manager, will be representing SPP at the conference. The National Outdoor Conference attracts professional and volunteer leaders who have the responsibility for operating safe and effective outdoor programs in the more than 280 Boy Scouts of America councils across the United States. The National Outdoor Conference is Scouting’s largest get‐together of volunteers and professionals charged with delivering the world’s greatest outdoor program for youth. It’s four days of backcountry excursions, group sessions, outstanding keynote speakers, outdoor vendor exhibits, clean mountain air, sessions with camping and outdoor experts, some fun competition, special program opportunities, great music, and fellowship with Scouting’s top outdoor leaders. Scouters and outdoor enthusiasts from across the country learn new methods, share ideas, and check out the latest in outdoor gear and programs.

Pistol Prodigies Wins August SPP Virtual Match Drawing

SPP congratulates the Pistol Prodigies team from Michigan for winning the August SPP Virtual Match Drawing. The team will have $1,000 deposited into the team endowment account. Each month this year, teams participating in the SPP Virtual E-Postal Match Series have a chance to win a random drawing of endowment money for their team account. To compete in this series, each team/squad must shoot the entire course of fire and submit their score sheets and the $1.25 per athlete fee for registration.
