SCTP - Scholastic Clay Target Program

SCTP Texas Banquet a Huge Success!

SCTP - Scholastic Clay Target ProgramThe SCTP banquet held in Grapevine, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, was a huge success due to the support and hard work of the Allen Eagles Competitive Shooting team and its fundraising staff, consisting of Bill Alford, Henry Politz and Richard Scott. Approximately 150 people in attendance and many more using the online bidding and ticket buying application were responsible for the anticipated record-breaking amount raised at an SCTP Banquet to date. Funds from this banquet and others like it are used for the SCTP’s Scholarship program along with other programs that it helps support. The team, led by Head Coach (and State Advisor) Jason Anderson, has been a huge supporter of the SCTP in Texas and one of the biggest reasons for the growth in the lone star state. If you are interested in helping the SCTP run a National Banquet, please contact the director of development in your area to inquire about the benefits and opportunities available.

Boy Scouts of America Partners with SASP

fleurdelis300x300-lowThe Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has partnered with the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SAS) to help promote competitive pistol shooting within the organization. "The Boy Scouts of America is pleased to partner with Scholastic Action Shooting Program to provide our Venturing youth with a challenging program,” Curt Palmer, BSA senior outdoor administration specialist, said. “Young men and women love to shoot firearms and this partnership will give them opportunities to learn safe handling while competing against their peers from around the country. It is an exciting way to teach them the values of Scouting while providing them an activity they love." The Boy Scouts will be using the SASP handbook, “Competitive Pistol Program Guidelines – For Participating in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP)” in its efforts to instruct young shooters. The guide provides a starting point to help councils and crews develop competitive shooting sports teams. TSRAF Announces SASP Texas Youth Shooting Competitive Match Series

stx-shooters-photo-2016-1The TSRA Foundation is proud to announce The Texas Youth Action Shootout match series for the Fall 2016 and Spring 2017 competitive season. In close cooperation with the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP), a program of the San Antonio based Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF), The Texas Youth Action Shootout will host youths age 12 through college age with a safe and team-based competitive environment. The series will conclude with a State Championship event in May 2017. SASP is the leading organization in the United States for organized youth action shooting events. Certified volunteer coaches and individual shooters are trained in safe gun handling and competition-oriented shooting skills thru the assistance of the SASP organization. Youth teams are comprised of four shooters using rimfire handguns and rifles, or centerfire handguns in which they engage multiple steel targets from a stationary position. Scores are based on the participants’ time and marksmanship skills. As SASP action shooting continues to grow nationwide, the TSRAF intends for the Texas match series to produce teams that will lead the nation in performance, character and safety. Each of the series matches will prepare our Texas youth shooters to compete at the SASP National Championship match held each July in conjunction with the SSSF’s Scholastic Clay Target Program National Championship.
“The Scholastic Action Shooting Program is pleased to be able partner with the Texas State Rifle Association Foundation. Texas is one of our leading states for SASP program membership and we believe we will be able to introduce many more youth to our great sport. We look forward to the opportunity to work together to promote our programs and reach out to the youth of Texas,” stated Tammy Mowry, National Director, Scholastic Action Shooting Program.
The TSRA Foundation is very proud to have the support of the SSSF/SASP organization and the support of the Texas based coaches and volunteers currently competing in SASP. Texas currently ranks second in the United States in number of registered SASP participants, and with the launch of this match series the TSRA Foundation expects to increase that number exponentially as it pursues its organizational goals of providing quality youth shooting opportunities in Texas for Texas youth.

The Scholastic Action Shooting Program, teaches safe gun handling and competition skills necessary to participate in matches such as NRA Action Pistol. I look forward to further supporting these young shooters at future local, state and regional Action Pistol matches.” In addition Mrs. Gerlich remarked: “TSRA Foundation is requesting the support of companies interested in the growth of youth shooting at the Series, Match or Stage level. By seeking sponsorship support from industry leaders and Texas-based companies we will grow the next generation of conservationists, marksmen and Second Amendment supporters. Companies interested in TYAS may contact me directly.”
