Positive Coaching Alliance's Double-Goal Coach Award is given to youth and high school sports coaches from throughout the U.S. who embody the ideals of the Double-Goal Coach, striving to win, while also pursuing the more important goal of teaching life lessons through sports. The 50 national award winners will receive $200; a certificate; recognition on PCA's website, newsletters and media campaigns; and 2 tickets to the 2019 National Youth Sports Awards & Benefit sponsored by Deloitte ($500 value). Select winners will be selected to participate in a panel discussion during the event and will receive an all-expense paid trip to attend. Nominations will close on November 30, 2018. Finalists will be announced in early 2019. Winners will be announced in Spring 2019.
Criteria Nominees are assessed on the extent to which they reflect the model of a Double-Goal Coach, whose first goal is winning, and whose second, more-important goal is teaching life lessons through sports. A Double-Goal Coach behaves as follows: • Takes a mastery approach to sport rather than a scoreboard orientation, teaching athletes to put forward maximum effort, continuously learn and improve, and not let themselves be stopped by mistakes or fear of mistakes. • Fills Emotional Tanks of athletes, refusing to motivate through fear, intimidation, or shame. Recognizing that a player’s “Emotional Tank,” like the gas tank of a car, must be full in order to go anywhere, the Double-Goal Coach provides a fuel mixed of five specific, truthful praises for every specific, constructive correction. • Honors the Game by respecting ROOTS (Rules, Opponents, Officials, Teammates, Self). Selection Process The Double-Goal Coach® Award Selection Committee will select Chapter Winners/National Finalists for the Double-Goal Coach® Award in early/mid February 2019. Fifty National Winners will be announced in March 2019. The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) recently donated $207,628 to Team Endowment Accounts at the MidwayUSA Foundation. Teams earned funds by raising money through Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) sponsored fundraising activities and by placing in SCTP national events. SSSF also matched national governing body fees paid by SCTP teams through the SSSF’s SHOT data-system. This donation has benefited 336 teams participating in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) across 35 different states. The donations from SSSF to MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment Accounts established to benefit SCTP and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) member-teams are made possible, in part, by grants to the SSSF from the Tulsa Community Foundation Youth Shooting Fund established and funded by the generosity of Larry and Brenda Potterfield. Since 2014 the SSSF has donated nearly $6.5 million to benefit 630 SCTP and SASP team endowment accounts at the MidwayUSA Foundation. The SSSF provides SCTP and SASP member-teams the opportunity to earn MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment Account funds by participating in SCTP and SASP fundraising activities benefiting local shooting sports communities and through placements in SSSF-sponsored competitions . Please contact the SSSF for more information on how your shooting team can earn team endowment funding for their account at the MidwayUSA Foundation. The Team Endowment Account Program at the MidwayUSA Foundation gives a community the ability to financially support a competitive youth shooting sports program or financially assist in the start-up of a new youth shooting sports program. The team can then request a grant of up to 5% of their endowment account balance once each year, in either December or June, to pay for team expenses. There are no fees associated with a MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment Account. The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation(SSSF) and National Rifle Association (NRA) Competitive Shooting Sports division are proud to announce members of the 2018 All-Scholastic Team! Over 230 student athletes from 25 states have been named to the team this year and will be recognized at the opening ceremonies of the SSSF/SCTP/SASP Team Championship event on July 18 in Marengo, Ohio. The All-Scholastic Team recognizes the top student athletes in the SSSF’s Scholastic Clay Target and Scholastic Action Shooting Program for their achievements in the classroom, on the range and in their communities. Through an application process, 2018 All-Scholastic Team Members have proven academic excellence by posting 3.0 or better grade point averages, shooting excellent scores in recent competition (95% in trap or skeet, 85% in sporting clays, 88% in international trap/skeet or 75 seconds or less for SASP) and by demonstrating outstanding community involvement. How did you spend your spring break? Well 112 college athletes spent theirs competing for SASP National Titles in Alabama. On March 10 & 11 the Scholastic Action Shooting Program held our College National Championships at the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, AL. We thank GLOCK for sponsoring our use of the Marksmanship Park and CMP for their great southern hospitality. This year was the largest championship in SASP’s history, with 16 teams, 112 athletes and 201 entries. That is a 100% increase in teams, 44% increase in athletes and 121% increase in entries over the 2017 championships. Congratulations to all the teams that participated with many competing in their very first national championships. This year the results were very close with many places being decided by just a few seconds and some by less than a second. In the Rimfire Discipline the University of Vermont took first, followed by Michigan State University in second and Texas A&M finishing third. In Centerfire Texas A&M repeated as National Champions and also took second, with West Point coming in third. In Optic Rifle the University of Vermont took first and third with Florida State University finishing second. In Iron Rifle University of Arizona won the championship by less than 5 seconds at their first nationals with Florida State University taking second and Clemson University taking third. In the 1911 discipline Michigan State University won the national championship, with Florida State taking second and Miami University of Ohio taking third in their first trip to the national championship. In the Open Division, Rimfire Bethel University won the National Championship by beating second place Clemson University by just 1.66 seconds, with Bob Jones University finishing third. In Centerfire Lake Country Action Shooters and Bob Jones University shared the title with Texas A&M taking second and the University of Florida taking third. In Optic rifle Concordia University Wisconsin competing in their first SASP took the championship beating second place University of Wisconsin Platteville by just .98 of a second, and Lake Country Action Shooters came in third. Iron Rifle the University of Wisconsin Platteville took the title beating their in-state rival Concordia University of Wisconsin who took second, with Bethel University taking third. In 1911 Lake Country Action Shooters took first and Concordia University of Wisconsin took second. View the complete results here. High School and Collegiate shotgun coaches & athletes are invited to this special 1 day clinic hosted by Pheasants Forever & Quail Forever. If you want to learn how to shoot better, or understand why you miss, you wont want to miss this opportunity. Each clinic is open to shooters of varying skill levels and is customized to the needs of coaches and athletes. Attendees will learn from former Team USA member Terri DeWitt. Terri is a level 3 NRA Certified Shotgun Instructor and is finishing her Master's degree in sport coaching as well as attending the International Shooting Sports Federation Coach School to attain international certification. Attendees will receive instruction and hands-on experience with athletes during the Youth Clinic.
