OSSA Awards Cash Grants to SCTP Teams

The OHIO STATE SKEET ASSOCIATION (OSSA) announced this week that they are awarding $250 each to the four (4) Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) Skeet Teams in Ohio for a total of $1000 to help with their operating expenses. This is the third year that OSSA has made cash grants to SCTP Teams. "OSSA is pleased to be able to support the SCTP teams and youth shooting sports, and in so doing, help grow skeet shooting” said Gustavo Acosta, OSSA President. “This generous grant by OSSA is a great example of how state associations can give back to their sport by investing in youth shooting” said Tom Wondrash, SCTP National Director. SCTP State Skeet Advisor, Dan Hathaway states, “ We are pleased to have the support of OSSA in our local, state and national events…this grant is much appreciated by the teams.” OSSA has over 150 members who compete in registered skeet events. OSSA sanctions National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) registered shoots held in the state of Ohio and operates the Ohio State Skeet Championship.

2018 Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation Scholarship Program

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF), the National Governing Body of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP), is once again offering a scholarship program to reward deserving SCTP/SASP graduating seniors with needed college assistance. The main objective is to award as many scholarships as possible to qualifying SCTP / SASP graduating seniors. Since 2013 SSSF has awarded over $300,000 in scholarship funds benefiting over 300 student athletes from 39 different states in the Scholastic Clay Target and Scholastic Action Shooting programs. SSSF is establishing minimal guidelines for the selection procedure, thus allowing the final selection to be as simple as possible. *NOTE - You must be a current and paid member of the SCTP or SASP national organization at time of application submission! General Procedures: Each applicant must be a graduating senior within the year of the awarded scholarship and must be registered for college before the scholarship is awarded in that same year.
  • Applicant must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative Grade Point Average through the most recent grading period ending on or before April 1, 2018.
  • Each prospective recipient must be registered as a full-time college student before the scholarship is awarded and must provide the name of the post-secondary college or community/ junior college to receive the scholarship proceeds. Each scholarship check will be mailed to the appropriate college in the student's name by October 1, 2018. The scholarship funds are to be used for tuition, fees, etc. This is a one-time, non-renewable scholarship.
  • Applicants may not be in receipt of any "full" scholarship funds in order to qualify (i.e., athletics, military academy, academic, etc.).
  • Applicants must have participated during 2017-2018 in one of their SCTP / SASP State Championships, National Championships, or regional events in Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, or Olympic Bunker; Olympic Skeet Championships, Pistol or Rifle.

Minnesota SCTP Informational Meeting

Join Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) national representatives on Sunday, March 4 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at the Minneapolis Gun Club for an informational meeting about the Scholastic Clay Target Program. Parents, coaches, school representatives and shooting range managers are encouraged to attend to ask questions and receive more information about the most comprehensive youth clay target program in the country.

2018 Iowa SCTP Regional Championships

Register now for the 2018 Iowa regional trap championships May 12-13, 2018 at the Iowa State Trapshooting Association (ISTA) home-grounds near Cedar Falls, IA. The program will feature 100 16 yard singles, 100 doubles and 100 handicap targets with all events available to teams either day of the competition. Team scoring will be used for this event with trophies and medals awarded to teams and individuals in rookie, intermediate, junior varsity and varsity divisions. College athletes scores will not be used for HOA. Singles and doubles targets will be registered with the Amateur Trapshooting association and SCTP/ATA rules will apply. All athletes must be fully registered with the Scholastic Clay Target Program prior to the event. Registration will be available through the SHOT system starting April 2nd. Event fees will be $43 for the singles and doubles events and $39 for the handicap event (ATA/ISTA fees included). All participating athletes will be entered for a random drawing for over $3,000 worth of  prizes! 2018 Wisconsin SASP Banquet

Please join us on Saturday, March 24, 2018 for the Wisconsin spring Scholastic Action Shooting Program banquet hosted by Concordia University Wisconsin shooting team and sponsored by Newman Chevrolet. The banquet will be held at the Ozaukee Pavilion at the Ozaukee County Fair Grounds in Cedarburg, WI. Doors open at 5 p.m. We’ll have raffles, silent auction, and a live auction with prizes including guns, trips and much more! Come out and support the Concordia University Wisconsin shooting team and the Scholastic Action Shooting Program! 2018 SCTP Junior Olympic Development Camp

Scholastic Clay Target Program coaches and athletes are invited to apply for a very special camp this spring focused on learning the fun and challenging clay target disciplines of international (i.e. “bunker”) trap, international doubles trap and international skeet. The 2018 Junior Olympic Development Camp (JODC) will take place in Colorado Springs, CO at the Olympic Training Center and USA Shooting’s International Shotgun Range at Fort Carson– training grounds for USA’s Olympic shooting athletes! The purpose of the JODC camp is twofold: 1. To assist USA Shooting in its pursuit of identifying SCTP Athletes who have the potential to become USA Shooting Team members and, ultimately, Olympic champions; and 2. To provide SCTP Coaches and State Advisors with increased knowledge and skills in order to become more effective in working with SCTP Athletes. The U.S. Olympic Committee and USA Shooting have confirmed May 23-28, 2018 for the camp with coaches attending all days and athletes attending May 24-28. Interested coaches and athletes must apply and be selected for the camp. SCTP will be accepting up to 24 athletes and up to 10 coaches. For the 2018 season, we ONLY have the May camp available. Ruger Donates P90 Manual Safety Pistol to Benefit Scholastic Action Shooting Program

Ruger Firearms has generously donated a blued manual safety model, .45 ACP, P90™ pistol to benefit the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP).  The pistol is being auctioned on Gunbroker.com now through February 28, 12:30PM eastern time. Ruger® first introduced the blued manual safety model, .45 ACP, P90™ pistol in 1998. The serial number of this P90™ is 661-84178 and the testfire date is January 13, 1999. This pistol has never been fired beyond normal testing during manufacture. The manual safety model P90™ is made of hard-coated A356T6 aircraft quality aluminum alloy, chrome-molybdenum steel, and 6123 Xenoy resin grip panels. It features manual ambidextrous safety levers; a 4-1/2 inch barrel and high-visibility white-dot inserts on both the front and rear sights. The square notch rear sight is drift-adjustable for windage. Other features include an oversized trigger guard and full-time ambidextrous magazine latch. The P90™ Pistol will be shipped in a gray plastic lockable case along with two 7-shot magazines, magazine loading tool, original instruction manual and original marketing materials. The pistol is being sold “as is,” and the purchaser assumes all liability for its safe and proper ownership, storage, use, and resale. In the Sioux Falls area this weekend? If so, stop by and see us at the 2018 Pheasant Fest and Quail Classic at the Denny Sanford PREMIER center. The Scholastic Clay Target Program and Scholastic Action Shooting Program will be represented in the Youth Village with staff members on hand to answer any questions you may have about the programs. Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic is a trade show that will focus on wildlife conservation, upland game bird hunting (pheasant and quail), dog training, and wildlife habitat management and restoration. In connection with the trade show, Pheasants Forever will hold seminars on habitat improvement, pheasant hunting, shooting sports, wild game cooking, dog training, and conservation and lots more! Registration for the 2018 Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) College National Championships is now open! Join us in Talladega, Alabama March 10 & 11 for a weekend of fun, camaraderie, and competition. Check out the Shooting USA feature on the 2017 College Nationals to see the event in action! Date: Saturday & Sunday, March 10 & 11, 2018 (rain or shine) Match Time: 9:00 AM Location:  CMP Marksmanship Park 4387 Turner Mill Rd, Talladega, AL 35160 (256) 474-4408 General Information Match Fee: $50 per entry Athletes may shoot centerfire or rimfire pistol and both rifle divisions if they wish. They may also compete in 1911 discipline as an additional gun, but must also compete in SASP centerfire or rimfire discipline. Times:  7:30 am check in begins 8:45 am shooters meeting, safety briefing 9:00 am match begins Shooting slots available for 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM flights Saturday and 9:00 AM Sunday Friday practice bays open from Noon to 4 PM REGISTRATION:  Log into your team in SHOT system, select Competitions, bottom left.  Click on the “Click to View Shoots” tab.  Then click on National Shoots tab.  Then select the shoot you want to participate to the right.  Then from there click on an open slot name your squad and enter the athletes. (If athletes do not appear in the drop down menu, check to be sure you have their SASP Classification entered in the team SHOT registration. Please register by Noon CST, Monday February 19 to guarantee an event t-shirt. SCTP 2018 Virtual League Series

Registration for the Scholastic Clay Target Program 2018 Virtual League Series is now open. The virtual league series is a fun, easy and FREE way to compete with other teams across the nation without leaving your home range! Competition opportunities are available in trap and skeet for youth of all ages! Who can participate? Any fully registered SCTP athlete in good standing may participate in the virtual league series. There will be two sets of leagues in 2018 based on age:
  1. Grades 12 and under
  2. Collegiate
When and where are the competitions? Each virtual series is a 150 target league that will run for 6 weeks (25 targets / week). Targets are shot at your home range or wherever it is most convenient for your team on a given week. Targets may be shot on any day of the week and scores must be recorded in the SHOT system that same week. Dates for the series are as follows:
  • Trap and skeet grades 12 and under Winter Virtual Series: February 19 to April 1
    • Registration deadline is February 18
  • Trap and skeet collegiate Spring Virtual Series: April 2 to May 13
    • Registration deadline is April 1
  • Trap and skeet grades 12 and under Spring Virtual Series: April 16 to May 27
    • Registration deadline is April 15
How can my team participate? Teams and athletes must be fully registered with the Scholastic Clay Target Program and have their team setup in the SHOT system. After initial team registration, a coach must sign up their athletes for the Virtual League Series prior to the virtual league series registration deadlines noted above. To complete the series, athletes must shoot 25 targets each week and coaches must record those scores to the SHOT System that same week prior to midnight each Sunday in order to successfully complete the league. Athletes may shoot their virtual scores anytime during the week including regular practices but must declare the round to count towards the virtual series prior to shooting. Coaches must collect and retain the score sheets used for virtual league series scores. Late scores cannot be accepted and athletes missing a week or coaches not turning in a score on time will result in a score of zero for the week. Are there any prizes? Priorities for the virtual league series include having fun, encouraging camaraderie among teammates and providing exposure to a competition atmosphere. All SCTP teams with athletes who participate and have scores entered into SHOT for all six weeks will be entered into a random drawing for a Tristar setter over/under shotgun! This gun may be used as a team firearm or for team fundraising purposes. How do I register and enter scores for the virtual league?
