CBS 5 - KPHO Shooters at the Arizona State SPP Match caught the attention of viewers of the CBS affiliate in one of the country's largest TV markets, Phoenix, as they prepare for the upcoming SPP Junior/Senior National Championships in Sparta.
During the June National Safety Month, GLOCK is taking the lead in encouraging shooters and gun-owning families to take firearms safety seriously by taking the GLOCK Safety Pledge. Several SSSF athletes, including siblings and SPP teammates John and Kaela Leach, are being featured in social media messages urging their fellow athletes and gun owners to take the pledge.
The Scholastic Pistol Program has been building its roster of Range / Safety Officers to assist at its growing events, and we're looking for a few more good men and women who would like to assist at this year's largest-ever SPP Junior/Senior National Championships. If you have some time during the week of July 13-18 and can be at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, Illinois, we want to hear from you. To reward our volunteers, we'll be holding a drawing to give away three guns, and you could win one of them. Each day you work, you will get an additional chance to win. Plus, there will be additional random draw prizes from our sponsors, so you will have a chance to win some great prizes for your help! Lunch will be provided to the Safety Officers. Nationals is a week-long event, and we need a minimum of 16 volunteers per day to work the stages, with two per stage. Daily Schedule:Monday, July 13 – Friday, July 17

Please consider coming out and helping the next generation of action shooters, and pass along this information to others who might want to help. If you're interested in working as a Safety Officer or learning more, contact Scott Moore, jsmoore@sssfonline.com, or Tammy Mowry, tmowry@sssfonline.com.

The SCTP and SPP National Team Championships will be July 13-18 at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, Illinois. Based on opening-week registrations that were almost double 2014 numbers, staff are expecting to have a record-breaking event. If your team hasn't yet registered, do it today!
Team GLOCK Captain and former U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit shooter Shane Coley will be hosting a pistol shooting clinic during the 2015 SPP Junior/Senior National Championships at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex. Coley has achieved numerous titles as a junior competitor, including USPSA Junior World Champion, and also as a member of the famed U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit. His departure in May from the unit marked the completion of six years of dedicated service to his country. The clinics are scheduled for Wednesday, July 15 at 11:30 and 3:30 at the WSRC pistol berms. Be sure to add this very special event to your Nationals calendar!
June 1 was much anticipated by Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) teams across the country, as it marked the opening of registration for the 2015 SCTP National Team Championships. Based on the first day’s registrations, staff are predicting another record-breaking event. In the first 24 hours of open registration for the July 13-18 tournament, the program saw 66 teams register 1036 athletes. Eighteen states were represented with 2,026 event registrations filed. “These numbers are incredible; they doubled last year’s first-day totals,” commented Tom Wondrash, SCTP National Director. “Coaches set their alarm clocks to wake up at 12:01 on June 1 to register their teams!” While the numbers are already up significantly from last year’s registrations, Wondrash points out that there will be enough shooting slots at the spacious World Shooting and Recreational Complex to fit in every team wanting to attend. The Scholastic Pistol Program (SPP) will also hold its National Junior/Senior Championships in conjunction with the SCTP tournament. In its third year, the SPP event has registered 259 athletes from 24 teams in 13 states to date. New SCTP side events include 16-yard Preliminary Singles Trap and a coach/athlete trap shoot. Team endowment funding, games, and many industry representatives will also be on hand all week. With appearances by people like MidwayUSA’s own Larry and Brenda Potterfield on Tuesday, July 14, Olympic Gold Medalist Vincent Hancock on Wednesday through Friday, shooting exhibitions and clinics by professional shooters, and more exciting events still to be announced, SCTP and SPP are looking at a very busy and exciting week in Sparta, Illinois!
The Scholastic Pistol Program has made updates to its Virtual Match Series, which is designed to allow teams to compete without having to travel to other ranges. Beginning June 1, 2015, there will be a special monthly random draw with a prize of a $1,000 donation to a team’s MidwayUSA Foundation endowment account. This special event will run through December 2015 and is open to any team or squad that participates in the Virtual E-Postal Match Series in that month. To be eligible for the random draw prize, a team only has to submit one (1) score for that month. National Virtual Championships In addition to the monthly random drawing, these scores are also entered into the SPP Virtual Match Championships. We will be offering endowment donations as placement awards. To be eligible for Virtual Match Series Championships, a team or squad must register at least four (4) squad scores during the season. To compete in this series, the team or squad must shoot the entire course of fire and submit their scores for registration. Just like any live match, a team/squad must have four individuals competing. The current Virtual E-Postal Series season began September 1, 2014 and has been extended to run through December 15, 2015. This year we will be using the Lewis Class system during the Virtual Match Series Championships. There will be two (2) Lewis classes in each division, and endowment money will be given to first, second, and third places in each class. In Class A, the donations will be $1,250 for first, $1,000 for second, and $750 for third. In Class B, the donations for first through third will be $1,000, $750, and $500, respectively. Eligibility for SPP Virtual E-Postal Match Series Any team or squad that is fully registered in the Scholastic Pistol Program, which includes being registered in the SHOT system, is eligible and encouraged to compete in this series. Teams must also have an endowment account with the MidwayUSA Foundation. If you don’t have an endowment account, it’s easy to start an account here. Submitting Scores Score sheets can be downloaded from the website. Coaches must register each score by submitting a scanned copy of the completed SPP score sheets to tmowry@sssfonline.com. The cost of registration is $5 per squad (of four) per match score. Checks and score sheets can be sent to: SPP, 288 Crisswell Road, Butler, PA 16002.
Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation is proud to announce the 2015 recipients in our SSSF Scholarship Program. Sixty-five SCTP and SPP student athletes will receive scholarships totaling $57,000. SSSF will add another $4,000 to that total in July when it awards scholarships to four additional athletes during Last Competitor Standing events at its 2015 National Championships. From 2013 through its 2015 distributions, SSSF will have awarded $140,000 in scholarship funds to 148 student athletes in the SCTP and SPP programs. Athletes who graduated from high school in 2015 and will enroll in college this year were eligible to apply for this year's scholarships. Awards are based on SCTP/SPP participation, academics, need, and other factors. The scholarships are being funded by generous sponsors who support our youth shooting programs, as well as supporters who raise funds through national banquets. For the SCTP scholarships, the National Skeet Shooting Association and National Sporting Clays Association (NSSA-NSCA) contributed $10,000 for 10 awards, and an additional $8,500 was provided by the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA), GunBroker.com, NRA, Hodgdon Powder, Zanders Sporting Goods, and MEC. Of the eight $1000 scholarships being awarded to SPP athletes, six are being funded by a donation from Smith & Wesson, while others are being funded by a $1000 donation each from the Joyce Wilson Women in the Shooting Sports Scholarship and the International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA). Congratulations to the following 2015 scholarship recipients:
