MidwayUSA Foundation Adds Over Half a Million To Youth Shooting Team Endowments

Columbia, MO- The year of 2017 continues to be a very positive one for youth shooting sports, specifically for those teams with a MidwayUSA Foundation Team Endowment. In September, alone, donations to the MidwayUSA Foundation generated $598,500 in matching dollars. The Matching Program matches contributions to youth shooting team endowments, 2:1, and is possible because of the generosity and passion of Larry and Brenda Potterfield. Their donations fund the program. Nearly 200 youth shooting teams benefited from this September matching contribution. “There aren’t a lot of organizations that are able to offer a 2:1 match and we are thrilled to see more and more teams are taking advantage of that,” said Randy Moeller, MidwayUSA Foundation Executive Director. “With the giving season right around the corner we are expecting donations to continue to increase in the coming months and we are able to triple those contributions.” Through the MidwayUSA Foundation website (midwayusafoundation.org/donate) donors can choose the team that will benefit from their contribution. Donations are tax deductible and 100% of the donation, as well as the match, benefits that team. The Foundation keeps zero for operating expenses. The 2:1 match will end in 2017. The MidwayUSA Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity working to sustain the shooting sports industry by providing long-term funding to youth shooting teams. Every donation made is 100% tax deductible and supports the mission to help communities and organizations raise funds to support their youth shooting team. The Foundation supports all shooting disciplines. Join or Renew ATA, NSSA, NSCA Memberships Through SHOT

As a reminder, any Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) athletes planning to compete in state or national SCTP events in the 2018 season must be members of the respective national governing body (NGB). Athletes in SCTP trap singles events must be members of Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) and athletes competing in SCTP state or national skeet or sporting clays events must be members of National Skeet Shooting Association (NSSA) or National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA). All targets will be registered with the respective NGB for those events. Through an agreement with each organization the SCTP receives funding from each NGB to support the annual SCTP Scholarship fund. Scholarship funds are only generated when payment is made through the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation's SHOT System. Coaches wishing to join with any of the NGBs may also do so through the SHOT System. The process is simple and can be done while managing other tasks through your team login. Please complete the registrations and payments at least 30 days prior to your scheduled competition to ensure time for processing of membership credentials through the respective NGB offices.

Scholastic Action Shooting for Venturing Crews

Did you know the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has partnered with the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) to help promote competitive pistol shooting within the organization? The program provides competitive pistol shooting experiences for Venturing-age youth. This program uses the standard SASP competition procedures for the senior and collegiate rimfire and centerfire divisions. The Boy Scouts are using the SASP handbook, “Competitive Pistol Program Guidelines – For Participating in the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP)” in its efforts to instruct young shooters. You can download the guide on the BSA website. The guide provides a starting point to help councils and crews develop competitive shooting sports teams. Vision 20/20 Campaign Runs Through December

In 2016 the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation launched a  campaign entitled, “VISION 20/20” with the goal to grow national participation in the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) to over 20,000 student athletes annually by the year 2020. In partnership with industry partners, civic organizations, member teams and DONORS like you the SSSF will provide the opportunity and funding for more students to join existing shooting teams and create new teams where none exist today. By introducing more student athletes to the world of clay target and action shooting, we will also ensure the protection of the Second Amendment for generations to come! Donors have the choice to support a local Scholastic Clay Target Program / Scholastic Action Shooting Program team and/or the national efforts of the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation to start SCTP and SASP teams where none exist today. For a limited time, donations to your favorite team will be matched 4:1 and donations to the SSSF's national efforts will be matched 2:1! All donations are tax deductible. Donations directed to teams support local SCTP and SASP teams in two ways:
  1. Cash grants provided by Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation for the upcoming season.
  2. Growth of the team's endowment account held at the MidwayUSA Foundation to support the team needs of the future, forever! Generous match funding is available to participating teams as well as a grand prize of $10,000 team endowment funds for the top fundraising team!
All SCTP and SASP teams are being invited to participate by engaging in team-centric fundraising activities in support of Vision 20/20. Donations directed to the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation will be 100% dedicated to the SSSF's operational endowment account to support the needs of the Foundation FOREVER! Generous match funding will be provided through the Vision 20/20 campaign to maximize all donations directed to the SSSF. This years campaign runs through December 31, 2017 and donations can be made securely online or mailed to the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation headquarters using the provided form. Match funding is made possible because of the generous donations from Larry and Brenda Potterfield. Name: Allison Gentry State: Ohio Program: SASP Team: Ohio Steel Stingers How the SASP has helped me as a young person: The Scholastic Action Shooting Program has helped me develop as a young person by finding solutions to problems and fixing them fast, if my firearm is broken I borrow someone else's firearm or if it gets jammed I clear the jam and keep going no matter how long it takes me to clear it. It has helped my social skills as a person and to be more outgoing. Teamwork, if you are done reloading your magazines and you see someone on your team you go and help them load and if they need anything you help them. You let your teammates borrow your firearm, you cheer for them while they shoot and you tell them good job after they come off the line. You have determination and strive, your performance is counted on the clock it is you against time it is not a sport like showing horses where it is the judges opinion you go against yourself and the time. You have confidence in yourself and the will to strive to your greatest and do a sport where you can bond with everyone around you and have fun doing what you love, that is how Scholastic Action Shooting Program has helped develop me as a young person. State Leaders Gather for 3rd Annual SSSF Advisor Academy

The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) hosted its third annual Advisor Academy September 23-24, 2017, in Milwaukee, WI.  Fifty-one key leaders from 19 states attended the two-day meeting focused on developing state and local level leadership, sharing best practices, and providing “grass roots” input to the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) and the Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP). "It was inspiring to see how dedicated SSSF is to youth shooting and I’m proud to be involved in this year’s academy, said Steve McClure, Shooting Sports Coordinator with the Arizona Game and Fish Department. "I left with some great take aways about our SCTP program and look forward to what comes next." “State advisors are the key leaders with our volunteer coaches all across the country,” said Ben Berka, president and executive director of the SSSF.  “Advisor Academy is a perennial opportunity for our state and national leaders to gather in order to evaluate our progress and continue setting our course to put more youth into organized and safe shooting sports programs across the country.” In addition to SSSF, SCTP and SASP national staff and state leaders, this year's Advisor Academy featured guest presentations from Friends of the NRA, MidwayUSA Foundation, the National Rifle Association (NRA), Positive Coaching Alliance and Sportsman's Insurance Agency during the general session.
