Indiana Youth Shooting Sports Foundation Reports Record Event Attendance

iyssfIndiana Youth Shooting Sports Foundation announced today that the largest ever Indiana Youth Sporting Clays event occurred Sunday April 24, 2016 at the Kokomo Izaak Walton League. Youth clay target competitions and teams in Indiana are experiencing dramatic growth. The Indiana Youth Shooting Sports Foundation (IYSSF.ORG) has been a large supporter of this movement. April 24th Howard County had 72 youth shooters from 9 youth teams arrived at the Isaac Walton League to compete in the Indiana Scholastic Clay Target Program’s (IN SCTP) Mid State Sporting Clays Championship. Additionally there were an estimated 150 parents and family members present also. 7200 competition targets were thrown as the youth competitors enjoyed the spirited competition. This event was the largest youth Sporting Clays event in Indiana EVER! When the scores were analyzed Reagen Harding won the High Overall Grand Champion with a score of 97 targets broken out of 100 thrown! The second place Grand Champion award went to Blake Sanford with a score of 96 targets broken out of 100 thrown. Blake didn’t seem disappointed as Reagen is his teammate. That’s correct the Target Busters, Coached by Jason Sanford, took the top two individual awards. Three public high schools were represented in the event. In the last three years since Attica Jr.-Sr. High School formed the states first public school shotgun team others are finding popularity for their high school students. Garrett High School and Fountain Central High School were the other public school teams in the competition. IYSSF continually promotes and supports youth shooting teams.  At this particular event, IYSSF handed out $5000 in team endowment awards for individual and team awards. These monies will be deposited into the winning team’s Midway USA Foundation accounts. IYSSF also defrayed the target costs of each participant by $10. The target payment came from a generous grant that IYSSF received from the Indiana Friends of NRA. IYSSF’s total support of this one event totaled $5720! The Friends of the NRA in Indiana holds banquets and fundraisers around the state to support youth shooting sports. They have donated over $550,000 so far in 2016. The IYSSF.ORG focused their grant application on reducing target costs for all IN SCTP kids that participate in the 2016 season. IYSSF.ORG president, Jim Dunn, provided the awards ceremony audience with a wonderful explanation of the origins of IYSSF and the Midway USA Foundation. There are many supporters in Indiana that want to see youth shooting sports continue to grow. He thanked the Friends of the NRA the MidwayUSA Foundation, and Larry and Brenda Potterfield personally, for their large portion of this support.
